Opened in October 1859, Midge Hall Railway Station welcomed trains until being closed on 02 October 1961.
Despite this, trains on the Ormskirk Branch Line still run on the tracks, calling at Preston, Croston, Rufford, Burscough Junction and Ormskirk. Furthermore, trains still stop at Midge Hall signal box to exchange a token for the single line onward to Rufford - this is a vestige of the 1970s and early 1980s, when the then recently singled branch line retained double track from Midge Hall into Preston.
There has been a campaign to reopen Midge Hall Railway Station for many years, and with recent housing developments nearby and the time the train already sits of Midge Hall, there is now hopes that the Station may be reopened.
You can learn more about the efforts being made to make this happen by visiting the Ormskirk, Preston and Southport Travellers’ Association (OPSTA) their website. You can also become a Member, to receive more news and attend meetings for just £5 a year.
The Friends of Goostrey Station fully supports OPSTA and are happy to do all that they can to assist.
