This Rail Ale Trail is a project to encourage people to use the train to explore the area and to stop off at local hostelries as they do so.
It’s been organised by members of the overwhelmingly volunteer Crewe to Manchester Community Rail Partnership, to help mark the 200-year anniversary of rail travel in the country.
The first phase includes the stations at Crewe, Sandbach, Holmes Chapel, Goostrey, Chelford, Alderley Edge, Wilmslow, Styal and Handforth.
Travellers taking part will download ‘Sticker Cards’ and, over any period of time, will visit participating pubs along the line. When they buy a cask ale, the pub staff will record the visit by sticking their pub’s sticker to the Sticker Card.
Participants are encouraged not only to go to the pub, but also to enjoy the surroundings and historical places of interest in each location.
